One of the best-kept secrets for families staying near Tokyo Disney Resort sits in a warehouse-style building in Ariake, about 25 minutes from Maihama: SMALL WORLDS, one of the largest miniature-world museums in Asia. Inside, tiny rockets launch from a space center, a 1/80-scale Kansai International Airport runs flights, trains wind through a global village, and Evangelion units stand in their hangars — with day turning to night every few minutes. It is completely indoors, open 9:00–19:00 every day this autumn, and takes about two hours, which makes it the easiest answer to “it’s raining and the kids are bouncing off the hotel walls”.
Who is this for?
- Families with children roughly 4–12 who like trains, planes, LEGO-scale detail and pressing buttons.
- A rainy or extremely hot day when you want guaranteed indoor time without a teamLab-style sell-out risk.
- Anime fans: the two Evangelion areas and the new Shibuya area are a draw in themselves.
- Anyone who wants to become a miniature — a 3D scan of yourself turned into a figure, shipped home.
What to expect
Nine areas, one giant diorama
The current official list of areas: Space Center (rocket launches — the launch show was temporarily suspended for maintenance at the time of writing, so check the news page), Diaclone, Global Village (streets of the world at 1/80 scale, with trains), Creators’ Gallery, the Shibuya Area (opened June 11, 2026 — the scramble crossing in miniature), Kansai International Airport (planes taxi and take off), Evangelion Hangar and Evangelion Tokyo-III, plus an Ariake Arena display. The Sailor Moon area that older guides mention is no longer on the official list.
Each area cycles through a day-night lighting sequence, so stand still for a few minutes and the scene changes. Buttons and viewing steps are at child height in many spots.
Make yourself tiny
The signature extra is the 3D figure: you are scanned on the 3rd floor and a miniature of you is made (1/35 scale from ¥6,600; larger sizes up to ¥24,800) and mailed to you in about 30 days — international shipping conditions are on the official page. There are also workshops (weekdays 12:00–16:00, weekends and holidays 10:00–16:45) where children build or paint small pieces. A café (10:30–18:00) is on site.

How to get there from the Tokyo Disney Resort area
From Maihama (fastest):
- JR Keiyo Line to Shin-Kiba — 2 stops, about 6 minutes, IC ¥199.
- Rinkai Line one stop to Kokusai-Tenjijo — about 5 minutes, ¥272.
- Walk about 9 minutes (flat, wide sidewalks; stroller-friendly).
About 25 minutes and ¥471 one way. From Shin-Urayasu add one Keiyo Line stop (3 minutes).
Via the Yurikamome (closest station): Keiyo Line to Shin-Kiba, Yurakucho Line to Toyosu (¥178), Yurikamome to Ariake-Tennis-no-mori (¥189, about 5 minutes) — a 3-minute walk to the door. Slightly longer and ¥566, but the shortest walk, and the same Yurikamome line continues to Odaiba.
From Urayasu Station (Tozai Line): the practical route is a bus or taxi to Shin-Urayasu or Maihama and the Keiyo Line as above — there is no quick rail link from the Tozai Line to Ariake.
Suica/PASMO works on all of these lines. Contactless credit-card tap-in is not accepted on the JR Keiyo Line or the Rinkai Line — see the IC card guide.
A rainy-day plan from Maihama
| Time | What |
|---|---|
| 9:30 | Leave Maihama; arrive Kokusai-Tenjijo about 9:50 |
| 10:00–12:00 | SMALL WORLDS (opening-hour crowds are light on weekdays) |
| 12:00–13:00 | Lunch at the museum café, or in the Ariake Garden mall about 10 minutes away |
| 13:30 | Rinkai Line one stop to Tokyo Teleport for Odaiba’s malls (LEGOLAND Discovery Center if it is still raining, the free fountain show from 15:00 if it clears) |
| 17:00 | Back to Maihama via Shin-Kiba |
With kids
- Strollers are allowed throughout; there is one loaner wheelchair at the 1F counter. Nursing rooms and accessible toilets are on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
- Displays sit roughly at adult chest height. Toddlers see best from a shoulder or carrier; there are step stools at some windows.
- Budget for the gift shop and the capsule machines near the exit — the miniature-figure souvenirs are hard to walk past.
- Average visit is two hours; with a four-year-old, plan 90 minutes and the café.
Pair it with
- Odaiba: the free fountain show and the bay — one Rinkai Line stop (Tokyo Teleport) or a 20-minute walk; SMALL WORLDS in the morning, fountain at 15:00.
- teamLab Planets and Toyosu Senkyakubanrai — two Yurikamome stops away toward Toyosu. A full indoor day is possible, but two ticketed museums plus a market lunch is a lot for small legs — pick one museum.
