Shibuya is the Tokyo your teenagers have seen in a hundred videos — the Scramble Crossing and the open-air rooftop of SHIBUYA SKY 229 metres above it. It is also, for a family staying near Tokyo Disney Resort, one of the easier central-Tokyo trips: about 40 minutes and ¥252 from Urayasu Station with one subway transfer, arriving directly under the building. The difficulty is not the journey but the ticket: SHIBUYA SKY uses dated time slots that go on sale exactly two weeks ahead, and sunset is gone within minutes. This guide covers the 2026 price rules, the strict rooftop rules (no strollers, no bags), the alternatives if you miss the ticket, and a half-day that leaves energy for the evening.

Who is this for?

  • Teens and adults who want the Tokyo rooftop photo — the open-air corner looking down on the crossing.
  • A family with older kids doing a “modern Tokyo” day; the crossing, Hachiko and Miyashita Park are free and quick.
  • Travelers comparing it with Tokyo Skytree: SKY is lower but open-air and far more photogenic; Skytree is enclosed, has a direct bus from the parks and is cheaper for small children.
  • Not ideal for: toddlers in strollers, rainy days, or anyone unwilling to plan two weeks ahead.
The 2026 price structure in one line: price depends on entry time (before or after 15:00) and where you buy (online is ¥300 cheaper) — not on the day of the week. Adults are 12 and over; children 11 and under pay ¥1,200 at the counter only; under 6 free.

What to expect

SHIBUYA SKY (14F ticket gate, 46F indoor floor, rooftop)

The ticket gate is on the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square (the tower directly above Shibuya Station). You rise to the 46th-floor indoor gallery (shop, café, lockers, nursing room, the only place tripods are allowed) and then step out onto the open-air rooftop: a helipad-style deck with glass-edged corners, a hammock-net area and a 360-degree view from Skytree to, on a clear day, Mount Fuji.

Hours 10:00–22:30, last entry 21:20 (ticket counter 10:00–21:20); closed January 1; ad-hoc closures posted online
Adults (12+) Entry before 15:00: online ¥2,700 / counter ¥3,000 · Entry 15:00 or later: online ¥3,400 / counter ¥3,700
Children (11 and under) ¥1,200, counter only, must be with a ticketed adult (sold even when adult tickets are sold out)
Under 6 Free
Sales Online from 00:00 JST, 14 days before the entry date; time-slot tickets; late arrival may be refused; no re-entry; no time limit once inside
Rooftop rules Only a phone, pocket camera or binoculars allowed on the roof; bags, hats, tripods, selfie sticks, food and drink go into free 46F lockers; personal strollers not allowed on the roof (limited loaner strollers at 46F information; carrier recommended)
Weather The roof closes without notice in rain, strong wind, lightning or extreme heat — the indoor 46F floor stays open

Which slot? The 15:00+ price band exists because sunset is the prize. If sunset is sold out, the first morning slot (10:00) is cheaper, clearer and uncrowded — and the crossing is just as mesmerising in daylight. For a toddler, the morning slot plus a carrier is the only sane version.

The Scramble Crossing and cheaper views

Crossing it is free and takes 30 seconds; the fun is watching it. Options, cheapest first:

  • Street level and the station walkways — free, chaotic, fine for a quick photo.
  • CROSSING VIEW & ROOFTOP LOUNGE MAG8 on top of MAGNET by SHIBUYA109, the building on the corner of the crossing: ¥1,800 with one drink, 10:00–22:00 (last entry 21:30), may close in bad weather. The closest overhead angle of the crossing itself (SHIBUYA SKY is higher but further away).
  • SHIBUYA SKY — the full skyline.

Hachiko, Miyashita Park and the rest

  • Hachiko statue at the JR Hachiko exit — free, a two-minute photo stop; the line for a photo is itself a Shibuya experience.
  • Miyashita Park — a rooftop park over a mall two minutes north: park 8:00–23:00, with a skate park, bouldering wall and sand court (paid), and RAYARD Miyashita Park below it (shops 11:00–21:00, food hall 11:00–22:30, weekends from 10:30). The food hall is the family lunch answer.
  • Shopping: Shibuya 109 (teen fashion), the Parco and Hikarie basements, Loft and Tokyu Hands for Japanese stationery and gadgets — all within 10 minutes on foot. Harajuku (Takeshita Street, Meiji Shrine) is one JR stop or a 15-minute walk north.

How to get there from the Tokyo Disney Resort area

From Urayasu Station (Tozai Line) — recommended:

  • Option A: Tozai Line to Kudanshita, Hanzomon Line to Shibuya — the Hanzomon platforms are directly beneath Shibuya Scramble Square; follow signs for the Scramble Square / SHIBUYA SKY elevators. About 40 minutes, IC ¥252.
  • Option B: Tozai Line to Nihombashi, Ginza Line to Shibuya (terminus, arrives on the 3rd floor of the station complex, by Hachiko). About 38 minutes, ¥252.

From Maihama (Keiyo Line): Keiyo Line to Shin-Kiba, Yurakucho Line to Nagatacho, Hanzomon Line to Shibuya — about 45 minutes, ¥451, two transfers underground. The Tokyo Station + Yamanote Line route (about 55 minutes, ¥440) works but adds the long Keiyo-platform walk; see Day trips into Tokyo.

From Shin-Urayasu: add one Keiyo Line stop, or take the bus to Urayasu Station for the Tozai route.

Suica/PASMO works on every route; contactless credit cards work on Tokyo Metro but not on the JR Keiyo Line.

A half-day plan (morning slot, lunch, home by 15:00)

Time What
8:45 Leave Urayasu Station; arrive Shibuya about 9:30
9:30 Hachiko photo; cross the Scramble Crossing once while it is still half-empty
10:00 SHIBUYA SKY (first slot booked two weeks ago) — 60–90 minutes
11:45 MAG8 drink over the crossing (optional), or Loft/Hands for souvenirs
12:30 Lunch at the Miyashita Park food hall
14:00 Hanzomon or Ginza Line back; rest at the hotel before an evening in Ikspiari or the parks

For a sunset version, book the 15:00+ slot nearest sunset, eat early, and expect to be back in Urayasu around 20:00.

With kids, and when it rains

  • Strollers: the building is fully accessible, but the roof is not for personal strollers. Loaner strollers exist but are limited; a carrier is the practical answer for under-3s. Everything else (bags, snacks, hats) goes in lockers.
  • Restrooms and nursing: 46F has a nursing room; restrooms are inside the indoor floor.
  • Rain or wind: the rooftop closes; you can still visit the 46F indoor floor, but the ticket is for the roof. Check the weather the day before, and swap a rainy-day visit for Tokyo Character Street or SMALL WORLDS.
  • Crowds: Shibuya at night on weekends is a crush; with younger kids keep it to the morning.
