With kids, a Disney trip is half preparation. This page organizes three things from a local's point of view: what to pack, what you can buy locally, and what to decide at booking time. Start with your child's age.
Ages 0–3 | The stroller years
- Consider "rental + baby carrier" instead of bringing a stroller. The parks rent strollers for a fee (eligible ages and prices on the official site). Stations have elevators if you bring your own.
- Pack diapers and baby food for the full trip, plus spares. Hotel shops and convenience stores carry some, but brands and sizes are limited.
- Choose a family-ready hotel. Crib availability and co-sleeping rules differ by hotel — see the family hotel comparison.
Ages 4–6 | Walks, but tires
- Fatigue management matters most. A hotel you can retreat to mid-afternoon (close to the parks, frequent shuttles) makes the day far easier — see the shuttle bus guide.
- One change of clothes and a light poncho. For splashes and spills. If rain is forecast, see the rainy day guide.
- Lost-child plan. Put a card with your contact details in your child's pocket. The parks have lost-children centers.
School age | Walking on their own
- A children's transit IC card if you'll ride trains and buses a lot (IC card & payment guide).
- A power bank. A full day on the official app drains phones.
- Queue entertainment (small games, cards) makes the lines much easier.
All-ages packing checklist
- Familiar medicines and fever reducers, plus your travel insurance certificate
- Power bank and charging cables
- Rain gear (top up locally if needed — see the rainy day guide)
- Some cash. The night-time emergency clinic is cash-only (Kids' Emergency Guide)
What you can buy locally, and where
Forgot something? Most essentials can be found around Maihama Station. The nearest convenience stores, drugstores and ATMs are mapped in our daily-life & shopping map.
Three things to decide at booking time
- Hotel: start from the family hotel comparison. Staying at a Disney hotel? Check Happy Entry (15 minutes early park entry)
- Luggage: hauling suitcases with kids is tough — go hands-free with airport luggage delivery
- Tickets: buy ahead via the ticket guide
